5 Quick Tips for Selecting Skincare Products
The Best Skin Care Products
For most women, part of their daily routines, both morning and evening, involves a skincare regimen of applying cleansers, cremes, moisturizers, tonics, lotions, and the like. Not to mention makeup! Why do we do this? The answers are different depending on each woman. Some of us do it to combat the signs of aging; others, to prevent or treat acne. Some of us, just to feel clean. Mostly though, it is because we want to look and feel our best and since our faces are the first thing most people see when they look at us, skincare is a top priority for many.
Chemical Skin Care Products
Some women probably do not realize that what they are putting on their skin may actually be undermining what they are trying to prevent to begin with. In fact, the average woman puts roughly ten products on her skin daily (including her different forms of makeup), many of which contain harmful chemical preservatives.
Dr. Myron Wentz, who is the founder and chairperson of USANA Health Sciences said,
Some say that beauty is only skin deep. Nonsense! I believe that true beauty is a reflection of true health, and true health begins deep inside each and every cell in the body. But true health and true beauty have an outer component, which is why we require protection from environmental insults such as solar radiation, pollutants in our environment, and the drying effects of air…The fact is, you simply cannot contain a healthy body if your skin isn’t healthy, and your skin can’t be healthy if your are subjecting it to toxic substances that are ultimately absorbed into your body.
It goes without saying that we must be sure we are using the very best skin care products on our skin so we look healthy on the outside, so we know we are also healthy on the inside! Here are 5 tips to assist in choosing your skincare products…
5 Tips for Choosing Your Skin Care Products
*How to Choose the Best Skincare Products:
1. Read the ingredients in your skincare products.
Be very aware of what you are putting on your skin. As much as possible, use products that are all natural/ homemade, but know that even natural products can be harmful too. For example, poison ivy is 100 percent natural but you wouldn’t put poison ivy on your skin.
2. Use a product line that includes an exfoliant.
Exfoliants will remove dead skin, excess skin cells, and makeup and other residues. This leaves your skin feeling ultra-smooth and with a glowing look!
Some women can exfoliate every day while others should only exfoliate once or twice per week. The way to know is to start slowly and see how you feel and look.
3. Use products that are paraben free.
Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives that are widely used in personal care products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair styling products, make-up, facial masks, skin lotions and creams, and deodorants. They are also often even found in baby lotions, shampoos, and other personal care products for infants and children. Parabens can also be found in many foods and pharmaceutical products.
Researchers are beginning to find parabens in benign and malignant human breast tumors. While some studies have challenged their toxicity in many products and question their long term affect on humans, using products that are paraben-free can eliminate the risk of exposure to this harmful chemical.
